Ballpoint Pens - utter reliability
	A design for a ballpoint pen was originally trialled and patented in Britain (see Wiki) and we can be justifiably proud of this modern-day invention even if we were pipped by a Hungarian in getting it to commercial production! These pens have far overtaken their predecessor the fountain pen in everyday use and most households are awash with them. Who hasn't taken at least one ballpoint apart to examine its innards? Utterly reliable, the ballpoint pen is also commonly referred to as the biro. It dispenses a viscous oil-based ink from its tip using the rolling action of a small metal sphere of brass, steel or tungsten carbide. The ink dries almost immediately after contact with the paper, preventing smudging. There are two basic types of ball point pens: disposable and refillable. Disposable pens are chiefly made of plastic throughout and discarded when the ink is consumed; refillable pens are metal and some plastic and while higher in price, with careful use have almost indefinite lifespans.
